Sunset at the end of Summer - Sky Watch Friday

Sunset at the End of Summer
Sky Watch Friday
Sunset in an Australian backyard at the end of Summer

Today is the last day of Summer here in Australia. This sunset is saying "Goodbye" to the Summer, and welcoming the start of Autumn. We've had a very cold Summer this year - only three days got above 30 degrees Celsius - so I'm curious to see what Autumn and Winter turn out to be! Here's wishing you all a great start to the new season, whether you're in Australia entering Autumn, or in America entering Spring.

Update: Apparently the U.S. doesn't enter Spring until the 21st. This'll be an early welcome for some of you!

This photo taken with the Kodak C330 digital camera.

  1. Interesting David- Here in the U.S. Spring doesn't officially start until the vernal equinox, which this year is on March 21st. Spring has not yet arrived officially or biologically here in the midwest, for sure! We had an inch of snow today.

Great shot, I love to see eucalypt silhouettes, they are just so unique and different from any types of trees we have in the U.S.

  2. I agree with Tom, it really is interesting! It looks a bit spooky with the misty haze in front of the sun.

    Great Pic!

  4. Hi Tom,

I didn't know that the U.S. Spring doesn't start yet. As far as I know Australia's starts today. Thanks for the tip though, I hope you enjoy Spring when it does come! :)

    Cheers,

  5. Hi Liam,

I never saw that haze, but now that you mention it, yes it does look spooky. Maybe this should have been cropped to just the area around the sun.....

    Cheers,

    David

  9. Hi Sandpiper,

That snow sounds exciting! From what I hear you haven't had much over there recently.

We have lot's of evergreen trees over here too - I think the trees in the photo never loose there leaves even in Winter, so we have leaves on the trees all year round!

    Cheers,

    David

  12. Hi David, In the area where I live we actually have had quite a bit of snow, so we're getting a little winter weary. I admit that it is really beautiful though.

I really enjoy your site! Thanks.

  13. Hi Sandpiper,

We are getting tired of the cold here too, actually. We've just finished Summer, but being cold throughout we're not really pining for Winter. I hope your Spring comes soon!

    See you later,

    David

  16. David, I tend to forget that all bloggers are scattered all over the world. Wow, last day of summer. No signs of spring here at all, we just got covered by 30 cm of snow and more is coming. Beautiful photograph, Anna :)

  17. Hi Anna,

I know, blogging can be hard with people visiting from all over the world. But it reaps enough benefits (and new friends) to be worth it for me! :)

    I hope spring comes soon!

    Cheers,

    David
