I caught this big Orb Web Spider under a tree one day. He was alive, but being quickly overrun by ants. So I flicked the ants off, and snapped a few pictures of him. He wan't very eager to move (all the better for me!), maybe the ant's had bitten him too much.

The Garden Orb Web Spiders are also called Araneus Spiders, Garden Orb-weaver, Wheelweaving Spiders or Orbweaving Spiders. The Latin or Scientific name is Eriophora transmarina.

Magnificent Bolas Spider

I snapped these two pictures out in the yard today, and initially couldn't identify the spider and sac. On the net, I found that the spider is called the "Magnificent bolas spider", and the picture below is one of it's egg sacs. For more information, visit the USQ's spider ID chart.

Here is a rather abstract photo of the sun shining it's rays through a Garden Orb Spider's web. The strong back lighting produces excellent outlines on the spider web, and the curve of the web draws the eye between the sun and the top right corner of the image (not that there's anything there!).
