Time to take a break! (Monkey Relaxing)

"Time to stop 'monkeying' around!"
Monkey taking a break

monkey lying down with his arms curled up - relaxingI caught this monkey taking a break at the Dubbo (Western Plains) Zoo last year. It seems an appropriate photo for today's post, as I've just finished a hectic week of playing at the Eisteddfod (along with younger siblings who were in other sections).

One of the pieces I played in this year's Eisteddfod was Beethoven's "Moonlight Sonata", Opus 27, 3rd Movement ("Presto Agitato"). This is a quite an "agitated" piece, and certainly makes for a great performance, if you can play it well. Recently I found a video of Rowan Atkinson (better known as "Mr. Bean") miming this piece, along with the first movement of Beethoven's "Sonata Pathetique". His performance is quite clever, and very amusing for anybody who's played either of these pieces. I've included the video below, and highly recommend you check it out. This guy is really amazing!

  1. David- Quite a nice little video, i've never seen MR. Bean looking quite so young. I guess he was popular in Britain before he ever made it to the U.S.!

  2. I'm glad you're getting a rest and letting Mr. Bean do a bit of the work!

Thanks for stopping by the poetry blog. Hey, if you write poetry at all, please join us at One Single Impression. We'd love to have you. All good folks--no snobs! (We chased them in our good-natured way!)

  3. Hi Tom,

Glad you liked the movie. I think Rowan Atkinson was very popular in Britain at the time this movie was taken, it was apparently part of the "Rowan Atkinson Live" show. I'm not sure about the rest of the world though. Often in Australia we get British TV at the same time as it's on over there, so we probably saw him a bit earlier than you did.

    Cheers,

    David

  4. Hi sandycarlson,

Yes, I am happy to get a break as well! This was a nice relaxing bit of comedy/serious miming after this week.

I'm not sure if I would exactly say that I write poetry. I used to write quite a bit, but now days I just don't get around to it. Although, maybe if I tried..... :)

Thanks for dropping round, hope you have a lovely day.

    Cheers,

    David

  6. I incidentally watched another version of Moonlight Sonata minutes before this. They were very different in moods. Exactly opposites I guess. If you want to check it, it´s here:

    It wasn´t made by me.

  7. Hi chrome3d,

Wow, that's some coincidence! I'll have to have a look at that video you mentioned. I love the Moonlight Sonata, it has such different moods and can be played any time really. Perhaps one of Beethoven's best compositions.

    Cheers,

    David
