Fishing Boat and Pelican at Dawn

I took this photo on a recent holiday to Lake Cootharaba, near Noosa. The shade of a nearby tree gives the photo a blueish tone. You can clearly see the ropes on the deck of the small fishing boat, and the pelican in the background looking out over the water for breakfast.

This photo taken with the Fujifilm S9600 digital camera.

  1. David,

A very cool photo. That lake is pretty huge, and it is so close to the Ocean! Very interesting. Boy do I miss Australia...your photos really bring me back. I've been going through and scanning some of my shots from 1999. It is too bad I didn't have a digital camera back then. Your country is beautiful and I miss it dearly. Thanks for sharing all your photos. I'm always excited to see what you'll have next.

  2. David, this is really nice bluish tone of the photo, the funny thing the pelican is hiding on the back but that was the first thing I noticed - must have been all the experience I got this year from chasing all the birds in the forest. Great shot, Anna :)

  3. I like how you can just barely see past the shadows into a lighter area. The colors are very relaxing.

  5. Hi Anna,

This is an interesting capture, I also see the pelican as the first thing in the picture. Even though the boat is the biggest subject in the picture, it's not the most prominent. That's the sort of thing which amazes me about photography. You can create so many different shots out of a single scene. Of course, it might just be bird-watching experience in this shot as well. :)

    Cheers,

    David

  6. Hi Tom,

It is great to be able to get so close to the ocean and yet have a lake experience. And the best thing about it is that the lake is only a maximum of about 1.7 metres deep!

Digital cameras are great, aren't they? I've just got back from a holiday, and I took about 1,200 photos just in 4 days! Imagine how much that would cost in film! :D

    Cheers,

    David

  7. Hi NYCIndividual,

I agree, this is a very special characteristic of this dawn picture. Amazingly, it didn't look that "blueish" in real life - it only shows up in the photo.

    Cheers,

    David

  8. Nice photo. I like the way the two floating objects seem to be "talking" to each other. Could you change David Lind to Davidlind? It is starting to confuse Google and I am not a law firm. Thank God!

  9. Hi davidlind,

I never noticed that concept of the picture before, but now that you mention it they do look that way. I'll fix that name up straight away for you.

    Cheers,
