On the eighth day of Christmas....

eight maids a-milking

On the eighth day of Christmas,
my true love sent to me
Eight maids a-milking,
Seven swans a-swimming,
Six geese a-laying,
Five golden rings,
Four calling birds,
Three French hens,
Two turtle doves,
And a partridge in a pear tree.

Today is the Eighth Day of Christmas. The "eight maids a-milking" reminded children of the eight beatitudes listed in the Sermon on the Mount.

Over the next 5 days of the Christmas season (ending on January 6th "The Epiphany") I'll post more information about the following verses of this song.
