Sunset at the Brisbane Golf Club
Sky Watch Friday
I was at a baptism in Brisbane this week, and the service ended with refreshments available at the Indooroopilly Golf Club. It was late afternoon by the time we arrived, and in the "Jacaranda room" I had an excellent view out to the west, where the sun was setting over the golf links. Somewhat surprisingly, the best framing I could find for the sunset was to zoom right in to 300mm, excluding the golf links entirely and silhouetting the mountains in the distance.Sky Watch Friday
Mountains in the distance with
the setting sun
The photo above was taken at about 4:30pm, before the sun began to set properly. I was walking through a doorway, and caught a glimpse of the mountains through the leaves of this plant. So, out came the camera for a quick shot! The leaves give an interesting tilt to the image, framing the mountains and drawing your eye along a diagonal path.the setting sun
Fantastic skywatch captures! Well done!
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful color!
ReplyDeleteGreat shot.
Good thing you had the camera handy. These are marvelous.
ReplyDeleteFantastic shots!!!
ReplyDeleteDavid: That first shot is really special with the sun showing off its shades. It didn't want to say goodnight.
ReplyDeleteMy goodness, David, that first shot is almost unreal. Amazing... your blog is beautiful!
ReplyDeleteThe Rocky Mountain Retreat
You got some beauties here! Have a great weekend..
ReplyDeleteLovely red sky.
ReplyDeleteNina at Nature Remains
I love them both and normally the top would grap me, but there is just something about the one looking through the leaves that I love.
ReplyDeletewhat wonderful colors

Hi sandycarlson,
ReplyDeleteYes, I try to have the camera ready as much as possible, but don't always succeed. Last night I was on a bus and saw the crescent moon over the city. At that time, I had the camera with me, but the bus wouldn't stop to let me get a photo! :) Well, you can't get it every time!
Cheers,
David
Hi neal,
ReplyDeleteThanks for taking the time to comment today. I hope you have a nice relaxing weekend.
Cheers,

Hi fishing guy,
ReplyDeleteGreat description, it didn't really want to say goodnight, as it took a very long time to set! Some places have long twighlights, but Brisbance certainly doesn't.
Cheers,
David
Hi michele,
ReplyDeleteThank you very much for your comment. Sometimes one does capture an "unreal" looking shot, and often somebody comments that if I painted it they wouldn't believe that it actually looked that way! Photography is a wonderful medium.
Cheers,
David
Hi ellen b,
ReplyDeleteThanks for leaving a comment, ellen. Hope you have a great weekend too. I'm going to be trying to relax - this week has been chock-a-block!

Hi rose,
ReplyDeleteThat's exactly what I feel. The "looking through the leaves" photo technically isn't a great shot, but something about it's atmosphere appealed to me. I'm glad you feel the same way.
Hope you have a great weekend, and SWF.
Cheers,
David

ReplyDeleteWow! These are just beautiful!
ReplyDeleteIt's really fantastic. The colour of sunset... Here in Brazil(Southeast) we can capture a orange colour like that only in the winter time.
ReplyDeleteI enjoy these little clouds that become simply irradiated with bright sunlight as they are overwhelmed by it.

ReplyDeleteHi davidlind,
ReplyDeleteI personally enjoy sunsets more than most other nature landscapes I come across. I think the comments on this post show that a lot of other people do too. Thanks for your continued comments, hope you have a great day.
Cheers,

Hi all,
ReplyDeleteI've had a few queries asking whether the second sunset was "touched up" in any way. The answer is no. As a rule I don't touch up any of my pictures, and when I do it's generally just the saturation. I don't have anything against digital editing, but I just don't do it often.
Anyway, this photo was not touched up in any way. Thanks for the questions and comments!
Cheers,
David
