Purple Weed (Wildflower) - Purple Sunday

Purple Wild Flower - Purple Sundaypurple flower - purple weed wildflower - purple sunday - garden flower macro photo close up
Well, it's come round to Sunday again, only 2 Sundays to go until Christmas. As some of you will remember I have started a "Purple Sunday" series of posts, where I choose a purple subject for each Sunday until Christmas (although I'll have a surprise for you next Sunday, check out the wikipedia article for a hint!) Today I've got a photo of some purple wildflowers. I spotted these as I was getting a photo of an Agapantha flower, and snapped a few quick shots as I was passing. I used a low aperture to get the flowers in focus, while blurring the background.

This picture has an interesting pattern of drawing your eyes between the flowers themselves, and the base of the stem. The radiating stems then send your eyes back to the top of the picture again. Try it - it's amazing how much these little things affect the composition of the picture.

This photo taken with the Fujifilm S9600 digital camera.

  6. David it is so amazing how simple flower that sometimes we ignore, but then when we snap the photo we say wow. And about the stem, its like an arrow to point to the top - great attention to detail on your part. BTW thank you so much for the add, I like your blogging too, it always have interesting stuff and information, and I will be waiting for the surprise, thanks again, Anna :)

  8. Hi anna,

The more I play with photography, I find that it really helps to bring out the common, everyday things and make them seem special. I suppose that photographs really make us stop and look at the things we normally just see out of the corner of our eye and take no notice of.

Thanks for your compliments about my blog too, I do appreciate them. :)

    Cheers,

    David

  9. Hi David,
thanks for visiting my blog again. I don't know what this flower is but it a beauty and well captured too. I would try looking in the Verbena family (Verbenaceae). It has a couple of characteristics of flowers of that type like the 5 lobed flowers. Just a guess though.

  10. Hi digital flower pictures,

Thank you for your information about this flower. I'll look up the Verbena family flowers, hopefully I'll be able to find it. We have a lot of these in our backyard here.

    Thanks again,

    David

  11. David,

Sorry I couldn't be of more assistance. I wanted to post a link to where I go when I can't find the name of a plant. These guys know just about everything. You have to register and try and post the relative info like location and growing conditions.

  12. Hi digital flower pictures,

Thank you so much for your help. It is very nice of you to follow up this issue with me. The link you have given me should be very helpful, not only now but also in the future for finding plant names. It will be great to be able to find out the name when a Google search doesn't help!

Thanks again for your help, I'll keep in touch and tell you when I work out what it is.

    Cheers,

    David

  14. Hi! Love the photo's. In regards to your purple flowers, my front yard is lined with white and purple Agapantha's. They do make a great sight. The other plus for us are our Jacaranda trees with their brilliant purple flowers. Both are considered weeds I believe as they easily spread but they do add some colour to our home. Thank you for sharing your images and thoughts. Regards Peter

  16. Hi Peter,

Thanks for dropping round, it's great to see another Aussie here! Where I live there are lots of Jacarandas too, with them and the Agapantha flowers we've got a bright splash of colour this Summer.

    Cheers,

    David
