This is a beautiful interesting photo. The lighting is somewhat mysterious!
ReplyDeletedavid,
ReplyDeleteA very spiritual and ethereal photo. The light and shadow speak volumes!
Hugs, JJ
David, very interesting concept. I always thought that backlight was bad for photography, but then I discovered, that you can capture very artistic images - the silhouettes, and like this one. Great photo, and thanks for it, as we are now in winter season, and being hit by lot of snow we hardly see any sun.
ReplyDeleteDreamy, moody, ethereal, mysterious... I like it!
ReplyDeleteHi roentarre,
ReplyDeleteThanks for dropping around. The lighting does look mysterious - who knows what is behind that veil of darkness! :)
Cheers,
David
Hi JJ,
ReplyDeleteIt's interesting how much meaning this photo gains just through the contrast between light and dark. Again, this shows how an everyday subject can become something very different in a photo!
Cheers,
David
Hi Anna,
ReplyDeleteI once thought that too, and often backlighting is bad, especially for portraits. But I find that whenever there is backlighting, you can usually focus on the light itself and come out with a great silhouette.
This photo just caught my eye as we were leaving from a photo-shoot in a major park. The sunset was there at exactly the right moment to capture this photo. I think this circumstantial shot turned out better than all the ones I had planned!
Cheers,
David
Hi Lynda,
ReplyDeleteAs I often say, "A picture is worth a thousand words." I chose this picture for "Wordless Wednesday" because it has so much implicit meaning, without any words. Somehow I can't describe it's meaning, but it does seem, as you say, mysterious and ethereal.
Cheers,
David
beaut shot, David. Especially love the 'colors at the end of a rainbow'....fantastic!
ReplyDeleteMerry X'mas to you and yours, dude. hope you have a great 2008.
Hi moggie,
ReplyDeleteThanks for dropping round again, glad you like that rainbow pic! I hope you have a great Christmas too, and going on to 2008. Happy blogging!
Cheers,
David
the flower you enquired about is called a rafflesia, david. it's the world's largest flower and very very rare. the one i was shooting is a smaller variety called rafflesia cantleyi. it does not have any stems, leaves, bark or roots, spending most of it's life as a chain of cells inside the tissue of it's host vine. (in this case, the vine is a tetrastigma tuberculatum). it lures it's pollinators, carrion flies, by emitting the false stench of a rotting carcass!
ReplyDeleteHi moggie,
ReplyDeleteThanks for the info about the flower. I'd heard about these before, but never had the chance to see them. It must have been difficult to get a photo with that smell!
Cheers,
David
my,my,my.... Truly Wordless!
ReplyDeleteLove to the light of David..lighting the dark corners as inspiration....
Hi merging point,
